Overview
I was born in London, but have lived in Sydney since 1978. If I’m asked, I describe myself as an Australian with a funny accent. I have published five novels and a collection of short stories.
I was an academic for many years, retiring as a Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Lingustics at Western Sydney University in 2011. I had two research foci: The development of translation competence, and the introduction of Arabic vocabulary into Malay and Indonesian. I was appointed Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University in 2011.
Between 2011 and 2024, I worked as a higher education consultant and governance specialist, mainly in the private sector, and as a board member and chair of a non-profit apprenticeship company.
